We are looking for a part-time barista to continue growing our team! This role comes with a free membership to The Den and is great for people who enjoy connecting with community + purpose.

Barista(s)

Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our drinks menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, and taking orders. To be successful in this role, you should have customer service skills and in interest in serving coffee. You should also be able to work various shifts. Note: this position’s compensation includes base pay and tips.

Ultimately, we want everyone who comes into The Den to feel appreciated, and that starts with staff who themselves are happy in their roles. We are looking for teammates who will partner with us to make this an enjoyable environment for everyone experiencing it.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers as they enter, assist them in navigating The Den’s dual concept

  • Answer customer’s questions regarding ingredients and provide an open environment

  • Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios)

  • Prepare beverages following recipes

  • Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins

  • Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)

  • Keep the bar area clean

  • Maintain stock of clean mugs and plates

  • Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs

  • Comply with health and safety regulations

  • Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items

Requirements and skills

  • Previous work experience as a Barista is ideal* but not required :) A lot of us learned on the job

  • Flexibility to work various shifts

  • Enjoys cleaning! our closer’s job is to listen to music and clean the shop so that it’s ready for our opener. Though not all shifts need to be closing shifts, this role is good for someone who enjoys a bit of solitude and cleanliness in the afternoons!

  • Comfort in a flexible space (sometimes it’s very busy! Sometimes there are lulls which give us opportunity to catch up)

  • Ability to gauge customers’ preferences

  • Kindness and open mindedness - a lot of our clientele are coming in because they are seeking community, so, greeting them with compassion is important

  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to partner with owner in order to continue developing menu to customer’s preferences

Compensation

$17/hour + tips
